Genetical and Histological Studies on the Male - Sterility of Napus - Cytoplasmic Brassica Pekinensis

Abstract
Gene analysis of MS derived from Napus-cytoplasmic Brassica pekinensis was done, by using the materials, MS line above mentioned, its counterpart MF individuals, and common varieties of Brassica pekinensis (F).
Also the differences of the microsporangium among them were investigated histologically.
The results obtained were as follows:
When the MS individuals were crossed with pollen plants, MF individuals, the progenies were segregated to 50% MS and 50% MF individuals.
No MS individuals were found in the progenies of MF selfed or crossed.
It has not been verified that the cytoplasm might have any particular effects of the induction of male sterility.
While the tapetum was hypertrophied and vacuolated at tetrad stage of microspore mother cell in MS individuals, such abnormal phenomena were not observed in MF or (F) individuals.
Ill-developed endothecium, shrunken anther and irregular, pollen which occurred at young pollen stage of MF individuals, were not ditected in (F) individuals.
